Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will be offering paid internships in cultural resource management and historic preservation as part of the Pennsylvania Highway Archaeological Survey Team (PHAST). PennDOT will be filling three Scientific and Technical Internship (STI) field technician positions for the summer of 2024. Applications can be submitted through this link (please note that anyone who does not complete the entire application will automatically be disqualified):
The crew will be based out of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and directly involved in important research on the management, study, and stewardship of archaeological sites and historic resources that potentially could be affected by transportation projects across the state. Fieldwork will primarily consist of Phase I survey, but there may be opportunities to participate in geophysical survey, as well as Phase II and Phase III survey. They’ll be exposed to the full range of job skills and employment opportunities in Cultural Resource Management through informal seminars and hands-on experience in GIS, curation, archaeological field work, project assessment, consulting, environmental review, and National Register evaluation.
Please see the attached flyer for more information and distribute to anyone who may be interested. Feel free to contact Susanne Haney at suhaney@pa.gov or 724.357.2081 if you have any questions.
