PAC would like to help spread the word for the Summer 2024 archaeology internship at the PA SHPO. This Keystone Internship will be between 225-300 hours and last 10 weeks between May 13, 2024 and August 23, 2024. The posting will close 02/02/2024.
Description of Work
The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is offering an internship with the Archaeology section of our Environmental Review division. You will work with PA SHPO staff to make geomorphology survey data more accessible to professional archaeologists.
Geomorphology surveys are often a crucial first step in identifying archaeological sites, especially along streams and rivers. PA SHPO has hundreds of geomorphology reports in our records, but many of these surveys are not currently mapped in PA-SHARE (PA SHPO’s online data management and cultural resource GIS). You will map and transpose geomorphology survey data into PA-SHARE, making these reports quickly accessible for the first time.
Throughout the summer you will learn how PA SHPO advises state and federal agencies under the Pennsylvania History Code and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. You will also gain an in-depth understanding of when and why geomorphological investigations are conducted in this process, learn how to record archaeological sites with the PA SHPO, and conduct archaeological site and project field views.
All interns must be currently enrolled in an upcoming term at a higher educational institution and have a 2.5 or higher GPA at the time of the internship. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
